Would nickel or gold colored hardware look better for dark kitchen cabinets?

I'm trying to make my kitchen look a little better without spending a lot of money, so I'm planning on getting new knobs and pulls for the cupboards and drawers. My cabinets are dark wood. I'm putting up dark red wallpaper, and my decor is wine/grapes. I'm not sure whether nickel or gold would look better. Any suggestions?
